A Mother’s Letter to Rome: Abuse Accusations and Institutional Silence.
In September 2019, a mother wrote directly to Rome.
Not to the press, not to a court, but to the man who was then the Superior General of the Piarist Order, Pedro Aguado Cuesta. The email, which we have reviewed, contains an explicit accusation of sexual abuse and rape of a minor, with names, facts, and a direct request for justice. En septiembre de 2019, una madre escribió directamente a Roma. No buscó a la prensa ni a un tribunal, sino al entonces Superior General de los Escolapios, Pedro Aguado Cuesta. El correo, al que hemos tenido acceso, contiene una denuncia explícita de abusos sexuales y violaciones a un menor, con nombres, hechos y una petición directa de justicia. SUBJECT: LETTER ADDRESSED TO FATHER PEDRO AGUADO (URGENT RESPONSE)
Good afternoon, receive cordial greetings.
My name is —-, I now live —-, —–.
The reason why I am writing is the following:
My complaint concerns the Piarist priest named Miguel Flores Martínez, who is currently living in Ecuador.
I will be brief. Approximately 14 years ago I met this priest. I was recently divorced with two children and this priest told me:
“Give me your older son, named Javier Alcántara, and I will take responsibility for his education and help you with all the expenses related to it.”
And indeed, this priest enrolled him in La Salle school for secondary school and later high school, which my son did not finish because this priest was sent to Spain. At that time I did not understand the urgency or the reason. In short, he left and we had no further communication.
As time passed, I saw my son completely out of control and I thought it was because of the absence of this priest. Time went by and my son fell into drugs. I thought it was because of the pain he felt because this priest had gone very far away.
Eventually, after some time and out of nowhere, Father Miguel contacted me to tell me that he had been sent to Ecuador, and I said: why??? I still did not know the reason.
The fact is that I had to take my son to live in Cancún so that he could feel better, but he never spoke to me about anything, he never told me what he felt.
And in Cancún he fell into drugs again and I admitted him to a rehabilitation clinic. It was there, through therapy, that he began to talk about everything this priest did to him. And it turns out that he raped him, forced him to do very unpleasant things in exchange for buying him things so that he would not speak.
Now that my son has told me all of this, you can imagine how I feel. I am so disappointed with priests (not with God). I have acknowledged that this priest is human and that I was at fault for not being attentive to what was happening.
Now I want to know what we can do. My son is willing to file a complaint and make this public, because this pedophile priest (sexual pervert) harmed my son so much that he has now been in this clinic for more than a year recovering, because he left him in a very bad emotional state.
So please tell me what I should do. I need your advice, because I have lost all trust in the Catholic Church. I know that there is divine justice, but I also know that in this world there must be human justice, and this priest must be punished for all the harm he caused my son.
Unfortunately, I do not have physical evidence such as photos or anything like that. I only have my son’s testimony and mine.
